Where the Wild Things Are News on Fandango

New on DVD: '2012,' 'Where the Wild Things Are,' 'Ponyo'

Roland Emmerich’s latest world-destroying end of the world epic 2012, starring John Cusack, Amanda Peet and Chiwetel Ejiofor, is worth a look if you’re in the mood for a good laugh. As Lloyd Dobler and Co. outrun earthquakes, tidal waves, explosions and sinkholes leaving only global destruction and any sense of logic behind under the guise of some Mayan prophesy that loosely predicted it all, the director couldn’t create a comedy this funny if he tried.

'Wild Things' Soundtrack Prize Pack Contest!

Alright, all you Wild Things! Besides being able to finally see Spike Jonze's innovative vision of Where the Wild Things Are onscreen, we've also got a cool little blog contest running here where one grand prize winner will win the following...

Adults lead 'Wild Things' $32.5M box-office rumpus

"Where the Wild Things Are" proved a bigger hit with adult audiences than family crowds as the adaptation of Maurice Sendak's beloved children's book debuted at No. 1 with $32.5 million.

Moviegoers 18 and older accounted for 43 percent of the audience, while parents with children made up 27 percent, according to distributor Warner Bros.

Danger lurks in Jonze adaptation of `Wild Things'

Spike Jonze recalls how Maurice Sendak urged him to make the movie version of "Where the Wild Things Are" as dangerous as the book was when the children's classic came out in 1963.

The question now is whether Jonze made it too dangerous.

The film arrives in theaters Friday, a year later than originally planned by distributor Warner Bros. The studio was queasy over the dark, menacing tinges Jonze brought to the story about a boy who sails off to an island where resident monsters proclaim him their king.

The 20 Best Kid Adventure Flicks...Based on Books

Maurice Sendak's classic 1963 children's book Where the Wild Things Are finally makes it to the big screen helmed by innovative director Spike Jonze (Adaptation, Being John Malkovich). Here, too, are 20 more great kid flick adventures adapted from books!

Spike Jonze Talks Where the Wild Things Are

It's been a wild ride for Spike Jonze trying to bring Maurice Sendak's classic children's book to the big screen. He vividly remembers his mother's voice when she read him the story of 9-year-old Max leaving home and finding himself king of the Wild Things on a strange island. But Where the Wild Things Are (opening Oct. 16 from Warner Bros.) is not child's play; it represents a nearly decade-long adventure to find the right cinematic touch for such emotionally raw material about childhood fears run amok. And it marks an artistic leap for the sensitive and iconoclastic director of Being John Malkovich and Adaptation. Jonze sat down with Fandango for an exclusive chat about his cinematic journey.

Fun Finds: 'Where the Wild Things Are' Clothes and Costumes

It's my belief that once Where the Wild Things Are hits theaters on October 16th, there will be a massive outcry for Wild Things-inspired Halloween costumes – especially when it comes to the lead character Max and his very cool hooded Wild Things pajamas. But what about adults? Ya know, those folks who grew up reading Maurice Sendak's classic book and are looking forward to the upcoming film even more than their children are? What do they get?
