Posted on 08 November 2007 at 07:27:32 I've been waiting for a game like this ever since I quite WoW over a year ago. I've been playing Planetside, waiting for Huxley.
So now this game shows up that might just have the best of all my fave words, Sci-Fi RPG with [near]FPS-like combat!
But I get bored just fighting monsters for xp!
I'm writing only to ask that the developers add more PvP. Either exclusive PvP areas or exclusive PvP servers. I want areas where PvP is always turned on, where "consent" does not come into play.
If any of you other players out there agree with me, please tell me your ideas for how to get this message to Richard Garriott and/or the developers. I have sent a message like this already using the form on the official site. But if someone here has a better idea or an email address, please share it and we can all let it be known just how many of us want some true PvP action. Thanks!

Posted on 08 November 2007 at 08:18:50 OK I apologize because now I see there IS a bit more to PvP in this game than I thought.
I see I could join a PvP Guild. I am wanting some more detail, though, from someone. The wording on the official site doesn't make it completely clear how PvP works when I'm in a PvP Guild. It SOUNDS LIKE just what I want, which would be that anyone who is in a PvP Guild can get attacked any time any where and can attack anyone else in another PvP Guild WITHOUT NEEDING TO CHALLENGE. That's the big question for me: Is surprise attack possible? To me that is what makes it exciting.
Are there any of you who play in a TR PvP Guild who have played much on a WoW PvP server who can tell me their experience?

Posted on 08 November 2007 at 12:29:47 Hey Scotter
No flame at all, but PVP is kind of destructive to the community feel that this game needs more of. There is hours of prattle in the /1 channel but no groups forming for the harder missions.
I dont mind PVP, its fun but I am enjoying the PVE at the moment. Half the problem with WOW is serious Ganking so I would want to see seperate warzones for PVP.
All that asside, my advise for getting more PVP content. Have its introduction make sense in the story line. MMOs break away from the virtual reality when they just add something in that makes little sense but it catters to the market desire. EG Battlegrounds in WOW (Isnt it world of WARcraft. Shouldnt the world be fighting constantly... war... fighting.... war.... no maybe not, maybe just in this here mill....and if we win we get a.... point... hmmm)
I would imagine that they will bring factions into the fray soon enough and then you will have your internal struggle. It seems pointless at this stage of the story to have internal fighting when we are all desperately trying to save humanity. ASF would be removing anyone from power that was more interested in battleing other humans than the enemy.

Posted on 08 November 2007 at 15:18:59 Hi Ooiittee -
Thanks for the well-thought-out reply. I see how for you, a person who gets a lot out of the story and perhaps role playing, PvP can be a huge distraction and even counter-productive. It sounds like you may get a lot of value out of banding together with a group with the same goal in mind. Cool. I can understand that.
I'm not as into the "story" aspect. Maybe it's because I read a lot of fun/sci-fi story pretty much every day and when I get into the game I want to have a bit more of a visceral and strategic play. OR maybe it is just because I haven't found a compelling enough story yet and this will be the one!
I'm pretty much convinced I'll dig the PvP in this game. NOW I need to find out how well it will work on my Vista64 box! Supreme Commander works like butter but Planetside crashes a lot.
