Posted on 28 December 2007 at 01:18:46 I am just picking the game up and I would like to know the best overall class for both solo and group play and why. I enjoy doing alot of solo play with other games while still being an assest to a group so that it doesnt take 10 hours to find one when I want/need one.

Posted on 30 December 2007 at 14:07:01 It's not so much classes that are solo friendly or group friendly, it's your skill set that counts. Any class can be either. A medic is much appreciated by a group of course, but it can also manage self-heals quickly enough to take on dangerous enemies solo. The most solo-friendly may be the Engineer, who can build turrets to fight for him and has self-repair abilities, but those are very welcome to groups as well.
Basically, pick something that suits your play style. More often you'll see people using LFG to look for specialists than for soldiers. Maybe that means specialists are more group-friendly, or maybe it just means there's fewer specialists out there than soldiers. I know from personal experience though, two specialists grouped can rip through anything. Two soldiers grouped may have more worries but usually are fine.

Posted on 31 December 2007 at 16:18:24 I solo almost constantly - 95% of the time I would say. Spy makes this very easy as you can kill any group up 5 or 6 in a matter of seconds OR if you have to wade through hallways packed with bane, you polymorph and walk through.
The hardest part is when neither of these is possible. There is a small problem with CP's and Polymorph that, while it bugs me, I understand the reasoning behind it. Attacking a CP as a Spy is rough solo - you get large groups all at once attacking you and a spy cannot walk through ANY force field while polymorphed - red or blue...
You would think that since when your not polymorphed and can walk through blue forcefields, then when you are polymorphed you you could walk through reds - this would be a HUUUUUGE advantage at a CP - especially since a Spy can "use" items without causing aggro (never actually tried this inside a CP while it was Bane occupied.... will have to add to my TO DO list..). But you cannot.
If I need to take a CP to complete a mission, I have to call on a friend or wait around till it changes by itself or I see other's attempting it.
Other than that, I love to solo and Spy is great for it. I cannot speak for the other top tier classes as I have not played them. Ranger solo is ok but at times you have to use the Chaingun and it gets expensive.
